URATPG = University of Rajasthan Admission Test for Post Graduate courses.
It is entrance test for taking admission in post graduation courses at University of Rajasthan. If you will see the prospectus of University of Rajasthan, you will find the details of all courses from page number 18 to 32. Few departments conduct exams and few have admission policies that they will take students on the examination taken by other departments and few department have mixed culture.
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are the departments for which number of students appearing in exam are more then 2000 and positions respectively are 35, 50 and 90. So, candidates per seat ratio is highest in physics. Since students appear in physics exam to take admission in other subjects like MCA, MSc IT and CENCER, but those will not fulfil the conditions of a student who is interested in physics. Since, above other three departments are very costly for a student who is not coming from reach background.
I have seen in last few years that there are few students who are able to get in IIT's for MSc but not able to get in at University of Rajasthan in physics department. If you will go to anywhere in India, you will find a name of Department of Physics, University of Rajasthan.

PhD and iPhD

Both PhD and iPhD will add a prefix "Doctor" with your name. If so, what is the difference between both of them?
  • If you have master's in any subject, you can continue your studies and get a degree named PhD.
  • Full form of PhD is Philosophiae Doctorate, which is a Latin word which implies Doctor of Philosophy.
  • In PhD you will have to do research in any area of your subject.
  • iPhD or Integrated PhD is also the similar work but that you can do just after your bachelors.
  • For iPhD you have to give atleast 1 or 2 years more in comparison to PhD.
  • iPhD option is there mainly for Science and Technology students.
  • Most of the research institutes and Indian Institute of Technologies are providing the facilities for PhD as well as iPhD.
Question comes in mind that how can we get in for PhD or iPhD?
  • There are many ways to do so. Many research institutes are conducting their own exam to take students in their PhD or iPhD programs. Eg. TIFR (Graduate Studies), BITS Pilani and most of the Universities.
  • There are some common exams for many institutes. Eg. CSIR NET (for science), UGC NET (for arts), DBT JRF (for bio students), GATE (common for IIT's and IISc), AIIMS (for medical sciences), JEST (for Indian research institutes, mainly Physics), IIT-JAM (for iPhD in IIT's and some research institutes of India) etc.
  • Direct approach: If you have a good academic record and have done good projects in your own college or in any reputed institutes, you can directly apply in most of the research institutes or you can approach professors of any institute directly with your academic record and write-up about your interest in research. There are a variety of rules in all places which gives many different ways to get in.
What should I do? PhD or iPhD?
  • Depends on your qualification. If you have done masters, you should do PhD. But if you have just completed your bachelors and confused in PhD or iPhD, then you should know about your interest. If you are really interested in research, you should go for iPhD but you don't know your interest, first you should complete masters from any good place and give your best in masters. After masters, you can decide whether you have to do PhD!
  • If you have completed your masters and thinking that you will learn more in iPhD. You are wrong, because it is fine that you will learn more but all those things you want to learn in iPhD course work, you can learn in your PhD course too. There is no institute, which stops you from learning.
I think you will get solution of many of your questions. Even if you have questions, you can comment.

Research in abroad. विदेश में शोध।

Want to go abroad for research विदेश में शोध के लिए जाना चाहते हैं।

While talking to students at Rajasthan, I came to know that they don't know about research in abroad. Some students know about JEST/GATE but don't have any idea more then this. Even if you will talk to them, you will find that they are underestimating themselves. I am going to give some views in following blog.

Q : I have done/doing MSc from a college, where I didn't do studies and I didn't perform any experiment. Can I go for research in foreign?
A : Yes, but it will be really problematic for you, if you haven't performed experiments in your bleachers or masters. Since, you should do some project with any university or research institute. Contact professors of any institute and do at least a six month project. After that if you will try abroad, it will be favourable for you.

Q : I have done MSc many years ago. In mean time I was teaching in some college. Can I apply?
A : Yes, you can apply but you have to show that you know your subject.

Q : I don't know English, can I go abroad?
A : If you are doing MSc, you know English as much it is required at base level. Now, you can do practice for learning English and you have to take training of the language of the country in which you are interested.

Q : Is there any country which takes students with some local exam?
A : Yes, there are several institutes/universities outside India which consider GATE score. Here I am writing few of them:
  • Singapore: National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nan Yang Technology University of Singapore (NTU).
  • Germany: Technical University of Munich (TUM) and RWTH Aachen University
Q : What are the ways to get admission abroad other then GATE?
A : There are other exams like GRE, TOEFL etc.

Q : GRE and TOEFL are very expensive, do I have other ways?
A : Yes, there are many institutes in Europe which ask for positions time to time. You have to visit on their websites and write email to the institutes you are interested. You will find the way. You can discuss your BSc/MSc teachers about the research going on outside India.

Q : I want to do research in India only. Why should I think of abroad?
A : Yes, you can do. But if you can learn something from abroad and come back to India for better, there is nothing wrong. If you are not interested in going abroad or learning something different then it is your personal choice.

Q : I am not able to get selected even in Indian research institutes. Who will consider my application abroad?
A : This is not a correct excuse. May be Indian institutes are not able to understand your creativity, so you couldn't get selected. If you will apply abroad and perform well, you can get selected. I know many person individually, who get rejected from Indian institutes and doing good research abroad.

Q : What is the scholarship outside India?
A : It depends on the country and institute. You can find there are institutes which are not paying anything and you can get institutes which are paying their students more then a professor in India. It also depends on the inflation in that country. It also depends on the reputation of Institute.

Q : I have listen that they ask for bond. Is it true?
A : As per my knowledge, you are free to leave research anytime in your life. But if you are going to do research, you should not leave in between. Try anywhere for research only if you have interest in it.

Q : I don't know my interest. What should I do?
A : I do not have answer of such questions. If you don't know, you have to discuss with  people and try yourself in all frames. You will find something about your interest.

If you also have such questions. Write down in comments bellow. I shall try to answer as soon as possible. You can write me personal email or you can contact me on given address.

Why span?

A poster with yellow background. On the top, span education is written in capital letters in blue colour. After that there is a blue box have word physics in capital letter and "from Concepts to Competition" in normal English where C in the starting words is capital.
First poster which presented about span education.

SPAN EDUCATION is a dream for people who want to learn physics. You can think, why span? This blog post is only to explain SPAN. We have started it with the most beautiful subject in our life and that is physics.

  • SPAN = Simplify Physics As Needed.
  • Span means the length of time for which something lasts.
  • Span is a amount of space that something covers.
  • Span is a period of time or a range of subjects.
  • Span is a extend form side to side of.
As it is written in above bullets, our team is interested in Simplifying the problems and ideas related to physics. We will simplify things for students and learners as they need it. As we know that people use the word span for distance, eg cosmic muon travels a clear span 10 km. Similarly, a learner who will attach with span education will travel long distances. Similarly, it is saying about time, if you will connect yourself with span education, in short time you will learn things in a way which you will use for a long time in life.
